Being relentless makes a person unstoppable. Relentlessness is incessant. It’s the quality of not giving up, of pushing through, especially when everything is telling you to stop.
Being relentless can be a personality trait, but it is also something that can be discovered and leaned into because it’s found in the heart.
The key to employing the relentlessness that makes you unstoppable is seeing what is important to your heart, and giving yourself permission to pursue it.
When you witness someone being relentless, it’s all about what they love.

UNSTOPPABLE LOVE
I have a friend who was born with cerebral palsy and Asperger’s syndrome. The doctor gave his mother no hope that he would ever walk. She was told repeatedly to “just get him a wheelchair”.
But this mom was relentless in her love for her son. She refused to believe he was destined to live life in a wheelchair and worked with him herself because the doctors had given up on him. Her husband crafted a special box that she used to practice creative and progressive exercises. These were designed to force his brain to register the feeling in his feet.
People didn’t approve of her ways or her relentlessness, but she didn’t care.
What she cared about was her son.
One day her efforts became visible. He was laying on his stomach on the floor and became enamored by an extension cord. Relentlessly wiggling to get to it he successfully crawled for the first time.
She scooped him up, grabbed the cord, drove to the doctor’s office, and barged into the room where the doctor was with a patient.
As the receptionist and doctor were objecting to her behavior she retorted watch! Then she threw the cord on the floor down the hall and set her son down next to her.
Without hesitation, he crawled all the way to the cord.
The doctor was dumbfounded.
This mother’s relentless love for her son fueled her refusal to accept the hopelessness the doctor dished out. It empowered her to endure the rejection of “friends”.
Her relentless love changed my friend’s life making the impossible, possible. He is now a grown man who drives, holds down a job, lives on his own and teaches others.

UNSTOPPABLE WILL TO LIVE
There is a woman named Bethany Hamilton. When she was just thirteen years old a shark bit her arm off while she was surfing in Hawaii. It was horrific. There was so much blood. Death came knocking. She had such a relentless will to live that it stopped the fear in her, that so many others felt.
She not only fought to live and did, just one month after the shark attack she was back in the water relentlessly pursuing her love for surfing.
Bethany was fortunate to be surrounded by many that supported her relentless fight for life.
However, not everyone is so fortunate.
Remember my friend’s mom was surrounded by people hurling hopelessness and criticism at her like clods of dirt. She shook off their opposition like the donkey in this story.
One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.
At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement, he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off! – Author Unknown
A whole group of people gave up on the donkey and tried to bury it alive, but it’s will to live was stronger.

UNSTOPPABLE MISSION
While writing my book Emerging With Wings, I discovered I had been on an unstoppable mission without knowing it. I recognized that it was my relentless search for inner healing and freedom that empowered me to become successful. Every victory I secured had begun with relentless mission within me.
It didn’t matter that I didn’t know how to overcome the poverty, chronic illness and the aftermath of emotional trauma I was dealing with. All that mattered was that I was miserable and I refused to stay that way.
That relentlessness empowered me to search for the answers I needed.
I became like the little boy digging through the manure in this story.
Once there were five-year-old twin boys, one a pessimist and the other an optimist.
Wondering how two boys who seemed so alike could be so different, their parents took them to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist took the pessimist to a room piled high with new toys, expecting the boy to be thrilled. But instead he burst into tears. Puzzled, the psychiatrist asked, “don’t you want to play with these toys?”
“Yes,” the little boy bawled, “but if I did I’d only break them.”Next the psychiatrist took the optimist to a room piled high with horse manure. The boy yelped with delight, clambered to the top of the pile, and joyfully dug out scoop after scoop, tossing the manure into the air with glee.
“What on earth are you doing?” the psychiatrist asked. “Well,” said the boy, beaming

YOU CAN BE UNSTOPPABLE
No matter how weak you feel, you can be unstoppable. How? With the help of God, and uncovering what you love, what you will, and a mission in your heart.
Yes it’s true that life can dish out some pretty awful stuff. But God isn’t surprised by it. Jesus told us that we have an enemy that seeks to “steal, kill, and destroy”.
But God is bigger than that enemy and he will relentless help you if you let him.
Why? What he loves, what he wills, and his mission.
- He loves you with a relentless love. Even more than my friend’s mom loved him.
- His will for you to live is so strong that he gave his life for you.
- His mission is for you to know and believe his love.
So, what are you facing that wants to ruin your life or make you give up?
- Something from the past?
- A new diagnosis?
- Something you feel powerless about?…
Ask God to help you answer these questions honestly.
- What do you love?
- What do you want to live for?
- What mission do you have in your life?
Pause and consider your answers deeply. They are an important root.
Jesus said what is in our heart in abundance is what comes out of our mouth, and trees are known by their fruit.
What is in you will come out of you relentlessly.
