Clarity is a beautiful thing like a bright sunshiny day without a cloud in the sky. There’s three ways clarity is present or missing in our lives. Clarity of mind, clarity of purpose, and clarity of who we are.
When we lack clarity in these 3 ways it’s like living in a murky fog. It’s an uncomfortable place to be. Sometimes even scary because we feel so lost and disconnected.
There are many ways that dark internal fog comes rolling in. But there are also ways to regain the brightness of clarity. First we’ll look at what makes the fog to roll in, then we’ll look at our solutions.
If we’ll do what we need to, we can gain better clarity and live better lives.
WHY THE INNER FOG
TOO MUCH:
When talking about the weather, fog is when air becomes so saturated with water vapor it can’t hold it anymore. Sound familiar?
That “can’t hold it anymore” is a picture of overwhelm.
Inner fog can overtake us when we’re trying to do too much. We’re only human. No one can do everything, yet sometimes we try. Then we become overwhelmed. The fog of overwhelm can be the result of too many options also. It can be the result of stress, which is too many emotions, and saying yes to too many things.
TOO LITTLE
Another reason for the fog to roll in what there is not enough of, or too little of.
This can be not getting enough sleep due to poor habits or sleep problems. It can also be due to too little of the necessary nutrients for your body – a poor diet.
We do these things either due to too little self-care, or they’re side effects of unaddressed trauma.
HOW TO GAIN BETTER CLARITY
ONE – The first way to gain better clarity is to quiet ourselves.
All that too much running around inside of us is like an unruly preschool class. Envision that. Can you feel it?
Now imagine the teacher comes in and lovingly gathers them in a circle sitting crisscross on the floor with hands folded in their laps and big smiles on their faces. Isn’t that beautiful?
You can make your insides feel like that by quieting yourself gently and lovingly.
Once you are quiet inside you’ll regain an ability to think clearer.

Leaning in is more than simply praying. It’s listening. Like cupping your ear, sitting on the edge of your seat kind of listening. You expect to receive something.
This results in receiving peace, direction, or a course of action that “seems” right. This gives a measure of clarity to take action on.
Taking action brings a greater degree of clarity.

Physical clutter is proven to cause anxiety, which will make the fog roll in. Go through and clear clutter in your house, your office. Put things away and throw things away. In essence what you’re doing is making decisions where indecision has been fogging your mind.
This is true of internal clutter too. Decisions need to be made.
Sit and write down where you have indecision, and why are you not deciding. On another paper make a list of what matters to you, what is essential. Compare the two papers and make some decisions – do it, schedule it, hire someone else to do it, or eliminate it.
This clarity will feel so good.

Refer to your list of what is important to you, what is essential, from the third way above. Have you been saying yes where you need to say no?
Staying true to the things you say are important to you is being true to your values. Being love and honor centric is one of my core values but that doesn’t mean I say yes to everything. Sometimes saying no is the most loving and honoring thing to do for yourself and others.
Getting rid of the things you ought not be doing will clear your insides of foggy stress.

Fear causes the fog to roll in. Where have you been holding back due to fear.
- What opportunities have you shied away from even though they align with what you say is important to you?
- What action have you not taken because you’ve been afraid of what other’s might say, or that it might not succeed?
- What direction has the Spirit of Grace been leading you but you’re hesitating due to fear, or maybe even running the opposite direction?
If you’ll employ your faith and say yes where you need to, the clarity will come one step at a time.
